A Year in Provence

Peter Mayle

Oh how we wouldn't mind isolating in the picturesque landscapes of Provence. Abundant with sunshine, olive oil, and vines on vines of wine. For those of us unable to make a Provençal escape, Peter Mayle's witty, humorous and honest chronicle of his own foray into Provençal domesticity is a great way to live vicariously.

The City Out My Window

Matteo Pericoli

As we ride out this storm from the confines of our New York City apartment, we have garnered an acute appreciation for our windows and the activity of the trees that happen just on the other side of the clear glass. This is why we have been particularly enjoying Matteo Pericoli's collection of illustrated cityscapes. The collection of drawings accompanied by comments, include intimate views of New York as seen by David Byrne, Annie Leibovitz, and Mario Batali to name a few.

The Art of Travel

Alain de Botton

In anticipation of our journeys abroad when traveling eventually becomes viable, we can look to Alain de Botton's wisdom on how and why we should travel, and how to do it well. Drawing from the viewpoints of painters, poets, and Romantics such as Baudelaire and Van Gogh alike, he takes us on a charming, lesson-clad journey on ways to feel more fulfilled through acts such as appreciating the landscape and cypress trees, train rides, gas stations and half-empty cafés.
